We’re now down to the last day of Year 2013. I couldn’t
agree more than anyone that this year time seems to pass so quickly. The clock
just ticks much faster when school commenced in April. Studies, projects,
friends, cca are the catalysts that speed up the time.
For now, I can say that I have no regrets stepping into Ngee
Ann Polytechnic. It opens me to another world and teaches me a lot more things.
New bonds are created. It grows stronger as time passes. Some eventually weaken
and disband, while the others are still growing to be tougher. For me, I know
that it’s impossible for me to have the best of all the worlds at the same time.
(although I wished I could) Right now, I’m contended with the current groups of
friends I have and I really really really hope that the bonds forged will remain
this way, or even better.
Let me recap some of the major events of 2013.
Release of Olevel results
The day where students finally see their efforts that they put in for the major
examination. Contended with my results,
however with a tingle of sadness upon seeing my English grade. I guess if I would score a B, my choice for
tertiary education would be in a Junior College rather than Polytechnic. But as
I mentioned earlier, I have no regrets being in this school now J.
During the scholarship interview, I was told to retake my Olevel English
language but I decide not to waste my money and time for it and instead do well
for my studies in Ngee Ann. Now I
secretly hope that I would be entitled another chance for the interview and
attain the scholarship, so as to elevate financial burden on my parents.
NPSU FOC 13/14
I was told that it’s a must to get into this camp because it will be a blast
and I will not regret it at all. True enough, I really enjoyed the camp and it’s
really different from other camps I attended. Maybe like what they say, Ngee
Ann Polytechnic has the best camp 5ever! My heart sank after knowing that the
first round of call up for the campers are done but I have yet to be selected. I
even went to the FB page to enquiry further whether are they going to call
another batch of campers the next day. And lucky for me, I received a call and
there’s a mini party going on in my head that moment. Being in Heredus, Hermod, Yggdrasil, is
something that I will never forget. They’re the first family that I have when I
step in Ngee Ann. Heredus has 2 handsome
GL and 1 pretty GL that show unconditional love and care for us. This sparks
the campers’ interest to be the GL for next year batch FOC. But as time goes
by, more new groups of friends are made. Studies, projects and ccas start to take
our time away. Some of us tried so hard to make time for the group outing and
dinner while some couldn’t. And yes I’m guilty of not able to make time for
them at the later part of the year. I’m sorry. But I wish those who are still
activity involve in SU’s event to work towards your goal, be it in SU, GL or
even crew! Have fun.
Muggers
It started when few of us are searching for tweets relating to “Ngee Ann Polytechnic
Biomedical Science N59” and we manage to exchange contacts and have our first
ever meeting at a Korean BBQ located in Novena. Accompanied by the whatsapp
group chat, we begin talk about anything under the moon. We were sad that we
couldn’t be in the same class together, but somehow fate just brought us
together by having most of us in the same semester. Together with the group of
friends you guys made during the Orientation, we started to form a clique and
eventually name ourselves ‘Muggers’ since our aim is to mug hard study hard and
also play hard. Honestly, this clique has brought out my wild side and I can
just show it to them without being judge. (or probably they are used to me) I
really cannot imagine how my school life would be if I had not being active on
twitter and being so spontaneous to meet them. Every one of us is unique in our
own ways and that’s the part that I like about each individual. However knowing
that in Year2 we are going to spilt due to 3 different specialization just
sadden me. How am I supposed to make new friends and build the bond in my new
class? Sigh. I hope that those who are selected for OIP to Shanghai will
cherish each other and spend the(possible) last 5 weeks together in China as a
clique before school resume and Year2 Sem1 starts.
LSCT Society
I join this CCA because of LSCT FOC 13/14 that was held earlier this April. I
was assigned to Team 8, which then appeared to be called KidFlash. And I
realise my GL is Kenny, my secondary school senior, and Kimberly. It’s because
of the bond I made in there and I decide to join this together with my
campmates. It was kind of lonely to be in there for the first few meetings as I
don’t have friends in my cliques that signed up for it and the rest of my camp
mates have their classmates with them. So it was kind of lonely being in there
at first. One thing I couldn’t believe is that LSCT Society is mainly about
doing Physical Training, which I had enough of it since I’m in Scouts back in
Secondary School days. But I guess with such background, I’m able to withstand
the toughness of the PT since I had it before. Society training other than
doing PT, they also prepare us for next year FOC. Thus we were taught how to
conduct games, precaution to take and eventually to plan a game for one another
to play. It wasn’t easy and I came to realise that doing proposal requires
quality work in order for the activity to be carried out. During the holiday
break after the examinations, we were preparing for Student & Staff
Showcase. So on top of regular society trainings, we also have to plan a dance
performance and skit on another day. Everything was going smooth until there’s
a clash between Hi!Club and LSCT Society training dates. There is a need for me
to choose either one of them. And I chose to give up LSCT Society in the end. I
will definitely miss the bond that I forged in that CCA and the bonded time we
have while doing PT together. And also since OIP clashes with LSCT FOC, I also
see no point in staying there since I would not be participating in LSCT FOC
14/15.
HI!Club
I couldn’t be more than happy to be in this CCA. My passion for signing just
grew stronger and stronger when I attend the events. It started of with HI!Orientation
where I have Lamyu and Timothy as my GL for group OWL. We were taught alphabets
signings and along the way, we get our sign names and learn some words like handsome
and pretty to praise ourselves. Near the end of the orientation, that is where
I’m first introduce to song signing and the passion ignites instantly to learn
how to translate song lyrics to signings. I was assigned to Class 1Book, where
I have Winnie and Ashley as my Basic A instructors! They are the ones that
started teaching us the most basic signing to be use in a simple conversation. The class performed ‘Lego House’ By Ed
Sheeran, which is the first song that I learn to sign. After that, I signed up
for the Camouflage Instructor’s Camp which is held in October. Matthew and Ken Hui was my GL for group KING
COBRA. As I only book in during the second day, I was afraid that I wasn’t able
to mix well with the rest. But instead, I came to realise that my group is the
most enthuastic group for the camp and the people in there are so friendly!
That camp also made me realise that in HI!Club camps, we don’t really get to
sleep at night. Our night will be busy learning song signing and rehearsing the
formation for the final day of camp performance. Few days after the camp, I
received a phone call inviting me to be part of HI!Club Opening Ceremony
Committee as a PA + Song IC crew. Being
my first time helping out to organize an event, I was happy to receive the
news. And thus 4-5 consecutive Saturdays are burnt to meet in school for OC
Meeting. On a particular night, I receive a text message and it congratulated
me being selected as an instructor for Basic A. I was overwhelmed upon
receiving the news! On top of normal Saturday meetings, there’re meetings after
school for instructors to rehearse their song signing as well. I had to admit
it wasn’t easy at all to juggle between studies, cca and sleep at that time. I
could feel the heat in my body that just keep heating up. But I know I couldn’t
afford to fall ill so I persevere till the very end. On the day of HI!Club Opening Ceremony, almost
everything went smooth and the efforts preparing all these had definitely paid
off. And then it’s time for instructing my Class 1Awww and at the same time
going for Basic B lessons in Class 2Fastandfurious. It’s really tiring at the
starting of the week as my Monday starts at 8, ends at 5. But have cca till
10+,which I reached home latest by 12. And the thing is my Tuesday starts at 9.
So I learned to push myself further and learn to sleep early on Sunday. (which still
kind of fail) HI!Club Main Committee 14/15 is open and I decide to give it a
shot for the interview. During the term break in December, I attended a
Leadership Camp, named Jigsaw Camp and was place under Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
(Super in short) This camp was organised by the Senior Committee and I
definitely learned a lot more about how to be a leader. Also, I really love these
camp activities! The Hunger Games: we are free to run around blk 51, FMS Level
1-3, and to complete a mission that we have while preventing our nametag from
being ripped by anyone. Mass Outdoor Cooking for Dinner: everyone aligned
themselves along the drain and started cooking for one another, feeding one
another, and helping one another. We were given maggie mee and hotdogs but they
taste way much better as compared to cooking them at home. This just gives me
the warm family feeling. On 21 December Saturday, we went down to town to
support NP HI!Club Alumni and intermediate that are doing Christmas Caroling on
the streets of Orchard. The aim of this event is to spread the season of love
and giving, and at the same time to raise awareness of the deaf culture in
Singapore. It’s an interesting experience and I can’t wait for next year to
participate in such activities! Few days after, a text was sent to my phone and
I was asked to be in HI!Club Closing Ceremony Committee as Emcee. Never ever
though that I could hold a mike and talk on stage and poor audience have to
listen to my awful voice and I have to listen to mine amplified voice.
Nevertheless, I’m excited for the script to be completed within the upcoming 5
consecutive Saturdays in school.
Of course I have also faced quite a number of downs in the year 2013. But I have learnt my lesson the hard way and will not make the same mistakes again. I don't have any regrets in meeting anyone of you because each individual can teach me a valuable lesson. I'm sorry if we couldn't be friends anymore.
Meeting the Muggers tomorrow and heading down to Marina Barrage to countdown with them to 2014!
Can’t wait to see what Year 2014 has installed for me!
